Business Associate Agreement
A business associate agreement, or BAA, is the specific contract a US healthcare provider must have with any vendor that touches patient information. It is narrower than a general data processing agreement: it exists only for health data, and without a signed one, sending patient information to that vendor is generally not permitted no matter how secure the vendor is.
