Database Migration
A migration is a controlled change to the structure of a database, such as adding a column, renaming a list, or splitting one field into two, written down as a repeatable step. The word also covers moving information out of one system and into another. Both kinds get rehearsed on a copy first, because a bad migration is very hard to undo.
