Firewall
A firewall is a filter that sits in front of a network or a website and decides which traffic is allowed through. It turns away connections by rule, based on where they come from and what they are trying to do, before they ever reach your actual system. Website firewalls go further and recognize known attack patterns rather than just blocking addresses.
