IP Address

An IP address, short for internet protocol address, is the numbered address of a machine on the internet, written as a string of numbers like 203.0.113.10. Web addresses made of words exist so humans do not have to memorize those numbers, and the internet quietly translates one into the other behind the scenes. Your office internet connection has one too, which is why some systems can be set to accept logins only from your building.
