Maximal Marginal Relevance
Maximal Marginal Relevance selects results by balancing relevance to a query against redundancy with results already selected. A common objective is (lambda * relevance) - ((1 - lambda) * maximum similarity to selected material). It is a particular selection rule, not another name for all reranking.
