Customer acquisition cost: the acquisition spending assigned to a defined customer group divided by the number of new customers acquired. A useful calculation states the cost boundary, acquisition window and attribution policy. Advertising alone is not necessarily the full cost, and returning customers should not quietly enlarge the new-customer denominator.
