Heartbeat
A system heartbeat is a recurring signal used to assess whether a process, connection or worker is still responding. Its interval, timeout and response to missing signals are defined by the system. Some agent products also use the word for recurring task checks; that product usage is not a universal scheduling or reliability contract.
