Commands & Actions
Query
A request for information from a data system, usually with criteria describing what to select, filter, combine or summarize. SQL SELECT is a common example. A query must be interpreted alongside its source, permissions and timing; an empty result means no matching visible records, not necessarily that the real-world event never happened.
