DDoS Attack
A distributed denial-of-service attack uses traffic or requests from multiple sources to exhaust a service or its supporting network resources. It targets availability rather than necessarily stealing data. A traffic spike alone does not prove an attack: legitimate demand, a faulty client or an outage can produce similar symptoms.
