Partial Failure

A condition where some components or steps of a distributed operation succeed while others fail or cannot be confirmed. The overall result may therefore be incomplete or uncertain. A timeout tells the caller it stopped waiting; by itself, it does not establish whether the remote operation committed its business effect.
