Polling
Repeatedly asking a system whether new data or a state change is available. Polling differs from receiving a pushed notification. Its interval trades detection delay against requests and resource use; errors, rate limits and source update delay can extend the wait. A successful check with no change is a valid observation, not necessarily a broken workflow.
